History

The Origin
The idea to set up this team had long been standing still after previous attempts by Paul Mizzi failed to materialise. However, following a voluntary experience in Naples, back in 2003, Paul Mizzi and Christopher Formosa teamed up to finally make this dream come true. Back in Malta they were joined with Steve Falzon who also contributed to the setting up of the project.

A number of friends were approached during CAMYouths CAMKamp in September of the same year in a bid to consolidate the first squad. Response was very positive and the final list of players was quickly finalised. Nicola Tombion was later appointed as head coach of the team whilst Paul Mizzi designing the team’s official logo.

The name Trampi inspired by Jolene Refalo
September 15, 2003 - the team was affiliated with the Malta Football Association’s official Futsal League. AC Trampi was born. The name was inspired by a typical Gozitan phrase told to us by Jolene Refalo nee Grech of Gozo, whilst referring to doing stupid things. Time showed AC Trampi was all but a stupid idea.

2003/2004
AC Trampi, playing in black and yellow kits started this new adventure with a bang, clinching promotion on the very first attempt, following a tense decider match against Infomate at Zabbar. Steve Falzon ended up as one of the best players of the division and his goals helped the team to lift high its first trophy. Was this a dream?

During this season, AC Trampi also launched it's very first website (click to preview) designed by Paul Mizzi. This was one of the first of its kind in the local futsal scene featuring comprehensive information about the club, the team and every individual player together with various photos, videos and web-links.

2004/2005
Managed and coached by Joseph Tanti, and later by Renzo Kerr Cumbo the second season in Futsal was somewhat disappointing. The team failed to adapt to the requirements of indoor futsal while commitment and team spirit started lacking, especially in view of the negative results that were arriving week after week. In the end AC Trampi only managed to obtain three points off a walk-over against Deportivo Santa Cruz, and finished the season in last place.

On a more positive note, designed by Paul Mizzi, the AC Trampi website was re-launched during this season (click to preview)

This was one of the first of its kind in the local futsal scene featuring comprehensive information about the club, the team and every individual player together with various photos, videos and web-links.

2005/2006
The third season in local futsal saw AC Trampi, training more rigorously at the SPMC football grounds twice a week, under the guidance of Adrian Zahra. A new set of shirts were bought and the official AC Trampi kit for this season consisted of a white shirt and black shorts and socks.

New signings included Kenneth Fiteni and Justin Psaila.

The return of AC Trampi to Third Division Futsal proved quite a positive one with the team reaching the promotion playoffs, only to be knocked out in its first phase. During this season AC Trampi played memorable matches against Pumas and Qrendi, winning them both. The first round match against Pumas which ended 9-5 stands to date as the highest scoring game won by the club.

2006/2007
Adrian Zahra was again confirmed as the club's coach. The team still had no sponsor and all the costs had to be borne by the players. This made it very difficult for AC Trampi to reach the level many would have wished. There was considerable discussion on whether the team should be competing with the aim of winning and reaching higher divisions or simply for the sake of participating as friends in an organised competition. It was decided to do the utmost with the available resources, which surely were not much.

Steve Pace joined the team to replace the departing Steve Falzon. AC Trampi finished the season in third place, behind Clarion and Paola Stars.

2007/2008
Adrian Zahra was again put at the helm of the team for the third year in succession. On the 27th of October, 2007 Paul Mizzi started this AC Trampi blog which is a place where various posts relating to local and foreign futsal could be placed and maintained on an ongoing basis. It enables sharing of thoughts and easy commenting, by friends and players alike.

During this season, MFA member clubs started participating in the local futsal scene and a Fourth Division was created.

Wayne Dimech and Stephen Xuereb joined the club, to defend our goals, and their goalkeeping qualities proved invaluable for the team.

AC Trampi finished the season fifth with seven points from ten games and managed to avoid relegation through playoff matches.

2008/2009
The sixth year of existence was a remarkable year for AC Trampi. Renzo Kerr Cumbo was appointed coach. It was clear that good results were a long way ahead unless a thorough assessment of the club’s structure and system was to be done. A team that started as a group of friends playing some football at a competitive level now became a competitive team playing in a friendly environment and looking to win.

The club felt the need to revive itself and develop a comprehensive web portal which could ultimately be another stepping stone towards something bigger. Besides, this was also the season where the club's first committee was elected to take care of the team's administrative duties. Also, new set of kits were supplied by GFI thanks to efforts by Steve Pace and AC Trampi started playing in red.

New signings included Conrad Dimech, Clifton Calleja and Mark Spiteri..

The club upgraded its training facilities and thanks to Kenneth Fiteni, AC Trampi started training on synthetic pitch with track and enjoyed gym facilities with showers and a full set of training accessories. Although the financial burden on the team was considerable, it was the most sustainable way of improving our level and become more competitive.

As predicted, the season proved very difficult for AC Trampi who secured a place in the third division only after the last league encounter ended in an impressive 5-2 comeback win over Riviera FC, a game that capped a beautiful and unforgettable season.

2009/ 2010
Kerr Cumbo was reconfirmed as coach, this time with Duncan Caruana as his assistant. Steve Pace dropped from the team and the club added Rolan Cassar and Gilbert Darmanin to the playing squad but unfortunately they failed to establish themselves in the team.

Drawn against teams such as Tal-Werqa SG, Warriors and newly promoted Gladiators Futsal Club, it was evidently a difficult season to come. Come the season, the team displayed lacklustre futsal in its initial matches, but thanks to an extraordinary comeback during the second half of the season, and not losing throughout the whole round, the club ended in fourth place.

The club also organised very successful events including a Pasta Night at St Paul’s Missionary College.

2010/2011
The MFA decided to start holding the Third Division futsal league in the indoor pavilion at Corradino. AC Trampi went back to playing indoor. This led many of the team players felt like having achieved promotion rather than having a mere change of terrain.

Kerr Cumbo was reconfirmed as coach for the third year running with Caruana as his right hand man. The club embarked on a side-project - Sporting Smontor - (Smontor being another Gozitan word, referring to the silver foil inside cigarette packets. It was suggested by our supporter Frankie Cini) The project provided an excellent playing experience for AC Trampi players who weren't within the first 16. Although this started well, commitment lacked substantially in the end questioning the long-term viability of this project given the club’s limited resources.

The Committee was extended from three to five members. Christopher Formosa, David Magri and Paul Mizzi were elected and for the first time the club had two non-playing members, Adrian Zahra and Paul Borg. The Committee took an executive stance for a period of 2 years.

Unfortunately the team lost Conrad Dimech and Kenneth Fiteni due to serious injuries. During the last part of the season Kerr Cumbo explained his intention to leave the club at the end of the same.

AC Trampi started training early at Savio College’s indoor courts and underwent a very intensive pre-season.  However, the jump to indoor football yet again proved too difficult and the team placed third from last with 14 points from 13 matches and got relegated to fourth tier of local futsal.

2011/2012
Duncan Caruana was appointed as head coach of the team with Daniel Fenech as his assistant.
